When Is the Best Time to Get Married in Portugal?
Choosing a wedding date is one of the most romantic and meaningful steps of the entire planning journey. It sets the tone for your day, shapes the atmosphere, and often determines the pace and style of your celebration. For couples considering Portugal in 2026, the good news is that you have options. With availability still open, though limited, at the venues we work with, now is the perfect time to look at each season and what it might offer your love story.
At Veil & Véu, we’ve seen Portugal’s wedding calendar from every angle. From personal experience to planning for numerous couples, we know which months work best not just for beautiful weather, but also for value, comfort, and the best guest experience.
Here is your guide to help you choose the perfect time of year to get married in Portugal, including real weddings, seasonal insight, and tips for planning around the country’s ever-golden light.
Why May and October Are What V&V Founders Chose
There’s a reason our two co-founders chose these very months for their own weddings.
• Tania married in May
• Natalie got married in October

Both seasons offer exactly what many of our couples are looking for: a combination of warmth, beauty, and balance. In our experience, May and October are when Portugal truly shines for destination weddings. You’ll enjoy:
• Great value for money
• Warm, comfortable weather, usually around 22–26°C
• Stunning golden-hour light for sunset photos
• Lower prices for flights, accommodation and venues than peak summer months
• Fewer tourists, creating a more intimate and relaxed vibe
Let’s explore each season and how it could shape your wedding day.

Spring in Portugal
Spring in Portugal is soft and romantic. It´s full of new blooms, warming sun, and a real sense of optimism in the air. Average daytime temperatures typically range between 16 °C and 22 °C, depending on the region. In the north, you’ll get slightly fresher mornings and evenings.
Late spring is one of the most sought-after months for a destination wedding in Portugal. It’s warm but not humid, the landscapes are at their lushest, and everything feels fresh and full of life. For UK-based couples, another advantage is that Easter falls in April. If your group includes teachers or children, this makes it an ideal time to take a break.
Real Wedding Inspiration: Nichola & Des celebrated their wedding with us on 26 May 2025, making the most of Portugal’s spring light, garden colour, and long pre-summer evenings.
Why we love spring weddings:
- Flowering gardens and natural greenery at their peak
- Guest comfort, as it is the ideal temperature for formalwear
- Easier travel logistics: lower flight prices and hotel rates
- Outdoor-friendly ceremonies without needing extreme sun cover

Autumn in Portugal
Autumn is a fantastic and under rated season. It’s one of the most romantic times to get married in Portugal – warm without being hot, golden without being harsh, and relaxed in all the right ways. There are still some dates available in October half term, again a perfect time for families to get away

Daytime temperatures typically sit between 18 °C and 28 °C, with warmth for outdoor vows and coolness for dancing into the evening. In the north, vineyards begin to turn colour and harvest season adds depth and meaning to your surroundings.
Real Wedding Inspiration: Travis & Andrea married on 9 October 2023, capturing everything we love about autumn weddings: rich sunsets, cosy light, and an atmosphere that feels as elegant as it does joyful.
Why autumn weddings work so well:
- Lower rates on travel and venues
- Stunning natural light for photos
- Comfortable climate for formalwear and dancing
- Softer, more intimate atmosphere

October is truly special, because you get the golden colours of autumn without the chill. It’s one of the best months in our opinion, and for many couples, offers the exact balance they’re looking for.
At Veil & Véu, we truly believe that every season has something special to offer, but May and October continue to be our personal and professional favourites.
There’s something about the light. The way the sunset reflects off the water at Swan Lake and the light dancing from the fountains at Fountain Lane. The way guests arrive feeling refreshed and relaxed – not overheated. The way your wedding album tells a story that’s vibrant and soft all at once.
Whether you choose the first signs of spring or the last golden leaves of autumn, Portugal offers a canvas that suits every kind of love.
